what our foster carers say

In this blog, we asked our foster carers, why do you foster with foster wales wrexham?

Gary – Wrexham Foster Carer

I started fostering in 2000. My wife and I both worked shifts and we had for a long time wanted to help children get all the advantages as our own children had.

We have never been in fostering for the money, and we wanted to work with the local authority because of the support they offered. Over the years I’ve found the local authority will always work with the foster carers and provide all the training tools and finances to cover this

The local Authority have recently shown their appreciation for their carers by rewarding qualified carers with a substantial skills payment for each child we have in our care. This skills payment is on top of the child or young person’s allowances, and the local authority recognise the cost of birthdays, holidays, out of school activities and religious festivals and provide extra funds to cover these additional cost should they be needed.

I am more than happy to recommend working with Foster Wales Wrexham and have a chat with anyone who is interested in becoming a foster carer with their local authority.”

Lisa – Wrexham Foster Carer

I have a good relationship with my supervising social worker, who trusts me and is a good source of encouragement. He is always at the end of the phone when needed to offer advice or just to listen.

“I foster for Wrexham because I know I am supported in caring for the children.

We are a lovely group of carers that take our jobs seriously and put our youngsters first. I am proud to be part of Foster Wales Wrexham and enjoy our coffee catch-ups each month.

Why spend excess money on private care when it could be spent on the children that need it more?

In 22 years, Wrexham has never given me cause to look elsewhere to foster and has backed me in almost everything I’ve tried with my children.

Thank you Wrexham, for giving me the chance to excel at a job that I love, although it may be hard at times.”

Millie – Wrexham Foster Carer

“I foster with the local authority because I want to give back to my council and those living in the community. I have fostered for over 20 years for Wrexham Council and I have found it the most challenging but rewarding part of my life. Our house is full and chaotic, but it’s full of love and care. Seeing babies returning to their  parents, to children moving on to adoption, making new parents and families, to watching youngsters grow and thrive to become adults, with families of their own. I wouldn’t change any of it for the world. I’m proud to be a foster carer with Foster Wales Wrexham. Go for it! You won’t regret it.”
